Jewelry made from breast milk
Allicia Mogavero, jewelry made from breast milk,
2007. Petrified breast milk encased in resin.
About Allicia Mogavero:
Mogavero is a mother of three who struggled with breastfeeding
her children. In 2007 she wanted to commemorate the lactation process and
experimented with preserving her own breast milk. She then created a five-step
process to successfully preserve it and turn it into wearable jewelry.
Above the Piece:
Mogavero launched a website called MommyMilk
Creations where she petrifies customer’s breast milk and encases it in resin to
protect the hardened milk from shattering. The resins can mold the milk in to
many different shapes such as trees, hand prints, and hearts and can be
customized to include their child’s name. Once the resin is cured she attaches
it to chains for necklaces, bracelets, and key chains.
I find this very cute. There has been a lot of
negative feedback to her work, but I find it a very beautiful way of honoring
motherhood.
